Theodore I Comnenus-Lascaris, emperor of Nicaea, 1208-1222. Trachy (Electrum, 33 mm, 4.22 g, 5 h), Nicaea, circa 1208-1212. IC - XC Christ, nimbate, enthroned facing, wearing tunic and pallium, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels in his left. Rev. [ΘЄΟΔⲰPOC] ΔЄC O' ΘЄΟΔⲰΡΟC St. Theodore, nimbate and in military attire on the right, and Theodore I, bearded and on the left, standing facing, each holding sheathed sword and supporting, between them, a staff surmounted by eight-pointed star. DOC 2.3. LBC 133. SB 2064. Sharply struck and with excellent details, an exceptional example. Very minor die shift and with light graffiti, otherwise, extremely fine.
